Delta Police Confirm Suspect in Alleged Defilement of 15-Year-Old Girl Is Not an Officer

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that a suspect arrested over the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Effurun is not a serving police officer.
The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo Erale, disclosed this in a WhatsApp message to a correspondent, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“The suspect is not a police officer. The case has been transferred to SCID for proper investigation,” Erale stated.
The suspect, identified as Ezekiel Pius, was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Effurun Area Command in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
He was allegedly found performing security duties while dressed as a Mobile Police officer at a private school near Regal Clinic, along Jakpa Road in Effurun.
According to reports, Pius allegedly sexually abused the 15-year-old pupil on several occasions at the school’s security post, particularly when she arrived at school or was preparing to leave.
The suspect was also alleged to have threatened to kill the girl if she disclosed the incidents to anyone, including her parents.
The matter reportedly came to light after the girl confided in a friend, who subsequently informed her parents.
Meanwhile, a Warri-based human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, has called for a transparent investigation into the allegations and urged authorities to ensure that the suspect faces the law if found culpable.
Joe also called for an investigation into how the suspect allegedly obtained police uniforms and firearms despite not being a serving officer.
“Information available to me is that he isn’t a real police officer,” the activist said.
The transfer of the case to the SCID is expected to allow investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations, including how the suspect allegedly gained access to police-related clothing and weapons.
