Tinubu Mourns Ebonyi Monarch Eze Francis Eze Igwe, Pays Tribute to His Legacy

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Eze Francis Eze Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu Alike Autonomous Community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, describing him as a custodian of culture and a symbol of communal unity.

Tinubu conveyed his condolences in a personally signed message issued on Sunday, October 11. He extended his sympathies to the late monarch’s son, former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, and other members of the bereaved family.

The President also commiserated with the people of Ndufu Alike, the wider Ikwo community, the Ebonyi State Traditional Council and the traditional institution over the monarch’s death. The ruler was also known by his royal title, Agom Ugabala II.

Tinubu said the loss went beyond the passing of an individual, pointing to the monarch’s contributions as a traditional ruler, politician, educationist and administrator. According to the President, Eze Igwe’s years of service had left a lasting mark on his community.

“The passing of a revered traditional ruler, politician, educationist, and administrator is not merely the loss of an individual; it is the loss of a custodian of culture, a repository of wisdom, and a symbol of unity whose life and service have left an enduring imprint on his people,” Tinubu said.

The President highlighted the role of traditional rulers in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, promoting harmony and encouraging peace among communities. He noted that monarchs also help sustain indigenous values and traditions that contribute to community cohesion.

Tinubu acknowledged the personal grief facing the Igwe family, particularly the former deputy governor, and said words alone could not fully ease the pain of losing a father. He urged the family to draw comfort from their memories of the late monarch, the values he passed on and the legacy he left behind.

The President further called on the traditional institution and the people of Ndufu Alike to uphold the monarch’s legacy through unity, peace, mutual respect and community development. On behalf of the Federal Government and Nigerians, he offered condolences to everyone mourning Eze Igwe and prayed for the repose of his soul and strength for the bereaved.
