Rema Explains Why He Avoids Flaunting His Wealth on Social Media

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has explained why he avoids excessively displaying his wealth and achievements on social media, saying he does not want young people to feel pressured by his success.

The singer made this known during an interview with Jam FM, where he discussed his influence on young people who admire his career and aspire to achieve similar success.

Rema said he understands that his lifestyle could affect how young people view their own progress, including those who are not necessarily his fans but look up to him as a successful figure.

“A lot of young people look up to me, whether they are my fans or not. I have something they want or dream of, so I do my best not to make anyone feel bad about themselves or feel pressured,” he said.

The musician noted that seeing another young person achieve fame and financial success can make others feel they are falling behind. He urged young people not to rush their journeys or measure their progress against what they see online.

According to Rema, some people have encouraged him to disregard concerns about how his lifestyle might affect others. However, he said he remains mindful that displays of wealth could be misunderstood or create unnecessary pressure.

He also pointed to parental expectations as another source of pressure on young people, explaining that some children are pushed to study courses or pursue careers they do not want because their parents expect them to secure well-paying jobs.

“I just care about the kids who are under pressure,” Rema said, adding that he prefers to keep his lifestyle simple rather than constantly display expensive possessions.

The singer said streetwear is among his preferred fashion choices and that he does not wear too many designer labels. He acknowledged that his chains and watches are among the more lavish aspects of his personal style.
