Naira Gains Marginally Against Dollar at Official Market, Trades at ₦1,333.65

The naira appreciated marginally against the US dollar at Nigeria’s official foreign exchange market on Tuesday, recovering slightly after beginning the week on a negative note.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the local currency traded at ₦1,333.65 per dollar on Tuesday, compared with ₦1,333.72 recorded on Monday.
The latest figures indicate that the naira gained ₦0.07 against the dollar in one trading day at the official market. The movement represents a slight improvement in the currency’s value, although the change was minimal.
At the parallel foreign exchange market, commonly known as the black market, the naira remained stable at ₦1,375 per dollar on Tuesday. The rate was unchanged from Monday’s level.
The figures show that the naira traded at different rates across the official and parallel markets. Based on the reported rates, the dollar was ₦41.35 more expensive at the parallel market than at the official market on Tuesday.
Despite the marginal gain at the official market, the latest movement alone does not establish a sustained recovery for the naira. Further trading data will be needed to determine whether the currency can maintain its position against the dollar in the coming sessions.
Exchange-rate movements remain important for Nigerian businesses and consumers because they can influence the cost of imported goods, raw materials, machinery and other dollar-priced items. However, the effect of daily currency changes on prices depends on several factors, including import costs, supply conditions and how quickly businesses adjust their prices.
Market participants will continue to watch official exchange-rate data for signs of a more sustained trend in the naira’s performance against the dollar.
