Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Two Suspects in Uyo Operations, Recover Suspected Indian Hemp, Cables

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations in Uyo, recovering a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and cable wires.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Friday, saying the operations followed intelligence and a distress call involving alleged criminal activities in different parts of the state capital.
In the first operation, police operatives raided an alleged criminal hideout along Aka Itiam Street in Uyo Local Government Area. The raid followed actionable intelligence about the suspected sale of illicit substances in the area.
The police said the operation led to the arrest of Gideon David. A search reportedly conducted on him resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to determine the extent of his alleged involvement and identify others who may be connected to the activity.
In a separate incident on the same day, at about 2:57 p.m., detectives were deployed following a distress call received by the police Control Room over an alleged theft at a company located along Udoudoma Road, near Tropicana, Uyo.
The operatives arrested Godwin Paulinus in connection with the reported offence. According to the police statement, cable wires were recovered from a bag belonging to the suspect. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other people were involved.
DSP John said the operations formed part of the ongoing initiative against criminal black spots by the Inspector-General of Police. She added that discreet investigations had commenced and that efforts were continuing to identify and apprehend other suspects who might be linked to the alleged offences.
The police have not disclosed further details about the quantity of suspected Indian hemp recovered or the value and ownership of the cable wires. Both cases remain under investigation, and the allegations against the arrested suspects have not been established in court.
