Tinubu Congratulates AbdulRazaq as Sardauna of Ilorin Ahead of Turbaning Ceremony
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, ahead of his turbaning as the Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate.
The traditional title is being conferred on AbdulRazaq by the 11th Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari, at a ceremony in Ilorin on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The State House confirmed the ceremony and Tinubu’s congratulatory message in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected in Ilorin as the guest of honour. His visit will include the inauguration of the Kwara Garment Factory and the 11-storey headquarters of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service. The projects are part of the state government’s wider programme of capital development.
The Kwara Garment Factory is projected by the state government to employ at least 4,000 people when operating at full capacity. The new revenue service building, meanwhile, was funded through savings from consultancy costs that would otherwise have been paid, according to the information provided by the state government.
The project inaugurations will be followed by the turbaning ceremony at the forecourt of the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin. A reception is also scheduled to take place afterwards, with several governors, ministers, senior government officials, traditional title holders and other dignitaries expected to attend.
Tinubu said the conferment of the title recognises AbdulRazaq’s leadership and public service in Kwara State. He also praised the Ilorin Emirate for the role of traditional institutions in promoting social harmony and supporting development.
The President urged AbdulRazaq to view the title not only as an honour but also as a responsibility to serve the people. He expressed confidence that the governor would use his experience and leadership to contribute to Kwara State and Nigeria.
The Central Planning Committee said arrangements had been completed for the ceremony, while residents were urged to maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies.
