Chelsea Injury Scare: Joao Pedro, Reece James and Moises Caicedo Miss Training Ahead of Brentford Clash

Chelsea have been hit by a fresh injury scare ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford, with Joao Pedro, Reece James and Moises Caicedo all absent from the open part of Tuesday’s training session.

Pedro’s absence will be a particular concern for manager Xabi Alonso after the Brazilian forward made an impressive start to the season. He has scored three goals and provided three assists in five appearances, including a late equaliser that earned Chelsea a point against Hull City on Saturday.

Captain Reece James was also missing from the main group at Cobham. The England international has been an important part of Alonso’s plans and has featured in a central midfield role, completing 90 minutes in three of Chelsea’s four league matches.

Caicedo’s absence is less unexpected as the Ecuador midfielder continues his recovery from a series of fitness setbacks. He has not started a game this season and remains under careful management as Chelsea assess when he can return to full action.

Alonso had already indicated that Chelsea would not take unnecessary risks with Caicedo ahead of the Brentford fixture. The midfielder made a 14-minute appearance in the 4-3 win over Brighton but suffered another setback, which kept him out against Arsenal and Leeds.

The latest training session did bring some positive news, with summer arrivals Marco Palestra and Jordan Henderson taking part fully with the squad. Both players are now moving closer to making their competitive debuts for Chelsea.

Chelsea are expected to provide further updates on Pedro and James as preparations continue for Friday’s west London derby. Their availability could have a significant impact on Alonso’s team selection as the Blues look to respond to their disappointing result against Hull.

For Caicedo, the priority remains avoiding another setback. Chelsea will have to balance the need for key players to return with the longer-term goal of keeping them fit for the rest of the campaign.
