With the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election fast approaching, the Accord Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to conduct themselves with neutrality and professionalism to ensure a credible electoral process.
The party said the outcome of the election would serve as a major indicator of INEC’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections, urging the electoral body to deliver a transparent, free and fair poll without technical failures or operational lapses.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Accord stressed that all stakeholders must protect the integrity of the ballot, insisting that every valid vote should count and reflect the will of the electorate.
“Accord urges INEC and security agencies to take their statutory responsibilities seriously by remaining neutral and impartial before, during and after the election,” the statement read.
The party also warned voters against accepting money or other inducements in exchange for their votes, describing vote buying as a threat to democracy and the future of the state.
“Every vote must be counted and counts in the overall result, and the people’s wish, will and mandate respected by all stakeholders,” the party stated, adding that citizens should not “mortgage their future for a mess of electoral porridge” through vote trading.
Expressing confidence ahead of the poll, Accord claimed it was on course for victory, saying it enjoys growing support from voters who favour the continuation of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership and development agenda.
The party further urged INEC to thoroughly test its electoral materials and systems before election day to avoid glitches that could undermine public confidence. It added that the Osun governorship election presents another opportunity for the commission to strengthen its credibility and reassure Nigerians of its commitment to credible elections ahead of 2027.
