Kylian Mbappé has moved to the front of the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, topping Score 90’s latest August rankings after a standout season for Real Madrid and France.
Mbappé’s position is largely driven by his outstanding showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he scored 10 goals and provided four assists as France finished fourth in North America. His World Cup campaign has strengthened his case for the prestigious individual award.
The Real Madrid forward also achieved a notable scoring feat during the year, becoming the first player to win the LaLiga, Champions League and World Cup Golden Boots in the same calendar year.
Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal occupies second place. The teenage star played a key role in Barcelona’s success in LaLiga and the Supercopa de España, while also making a significant contribution to Spain’s World Cup campaign.
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is third. Kane scored 73 goals for Bayern last season and helped the German giants secure a domestic double and reach the Champions League semi-finals. He also played an important role as England finished third at the World Cup.
Former Manchester City midfielder Rodri is fourth on the list. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner was influential in Spain’s World Cup triumph and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, taking home the Golden Ball. He also won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup with Manchester City before his move to Barcelona.
Erling Haaland completes the top five. The Manchester City striker scored seven goals during Norway’s World Cup campaign and finished the 2025–26 season with 38 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions. He also helped City win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
With Mbappé leading Yamal, Kane, Rodri and Haaland, the early Ballon d’Or picture is already taking shape. However, the race remains open, with individual performances and team success still capable of reshaping the rankings as the season progresses.
