Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has opened up about his strained relationship with Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy, claiming a false allegation spread by his former associates caused a major rift between them.
Speaking during a recent interview, Shatta Wale said Burna Boy was once a close friend who stayed with him whenever he visited Ghana. According to the “On God” hitmaker, the two enjoyed a strong bond before rumours allegedly drove them apart.
The singer claimed the trouble began after he fell out with some members of his team. He alleged that the former associates contacted influential people around him with fabricated stories in a bid to damage his reputation and personal relationships.
Among the claims, Shatta Wale said they falsely accused him of having an affair with a woman Burna Boy had brought to Ghana.
“They told Burna Boy that I was f**king his girl he brought to Ghana. He just bought it,” Shatta Wale alleged.
The dancehall star said the accusation changed Burna Boy’s attitude towards him. He revealed that despite making several attempts to reconnect after the Nigerian singer’s career reached new heights, his phone calls and messages were ignored.
Shatta Wale added that he even reached out to Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, hoping she would help him get through to the Afrobeats star. However, he claimed she only gave reasons why Burna Boy was unavailable.
Despite the fallout, Shatta Wale insisted he holds no grudge against Burna Boy. He said he is genuinely happy to see the Nigerian artiste achieve global success but remains disappointed that he was never given the opportunity to explain that the allegations against him were untrue.
