The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden death of a 60-year-old man who died after suffering a medical emergency at a hotel in Dutse.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, and shared on the command’s official Facebook page.
According to the police, the deceased checked into the hotel with a 20-year-old woman before requesting a meal. Shortly afterwards, he reportedly developed breathing difficulties and began gasping for air, prompting an emergency response.
Police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded to the distress call and immediately evacuated the man to the General Hospital in Dutse. However, medical personnel examined him on arrival and confirmed that he had died.
As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives searched the hotel room and recovered food items, drinks, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings, which have been taken in as exhibits for further examination.
The police said the deceased’s body was released to his family for burial following their request, while the woman who accompanied him is cooperating with investigators by providing information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command urged members of the public to avoid speculation and the spread of unverified information, assuring residents that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, professionally and impartially.
Police have not disclosed the identity of the deceased, and the exact cause of death is yet to be officially determined pending the outcome of the investigation.
