APC Youth Leader’s Seven Toyota Prado SUVs Spark Debate Over Spending Priorities

The display of seven brand-new Toyota Prado SUVs by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Leader Dayo Israel has drawn public attention amid concerns about Nigeria’s economic challenges and political spending.
Israel announced the presentation in a post on X on Sunday, saying the 2026 Prado SUVs were given to selected youth leaders to support their election mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also expressed appreciation to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her support for the party’s youth structure.
The announcement was accompanied by a video showing seven vehicles. The presentation has prompted debate over the cost of the SUVs, the source of funding and the priorities of political organisations at a time when many Nigerians face economic hardship.
Professor Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), criticised the display, contrasting the reported value of the vehicles with the salaries of Nigerian soldiers. He also questioned whether the money could have been used to provide ambulances and other essential healthcare equipment.
The NDC also criticised the presentation, estimating that the seven vehicles were worth about ₦1.015 billion based on its assessment of market prices.
However, Israel’s post did not disclose the actual cost of the vehicles or the source of funding for their purchase. The post was later deleted after generating widespread reactions online, according to the supplied report.
The presentation has brought renewed attention to questions about political spending, election mobilisation and how party leaders balance campaign activities with the economic realities facing Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
