A 30-year-old man has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly beating his wife to death following a domestic dispute over food preparation in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Musbawu Amodu, is accused of assaulting his 20-year-old wife after she reportedly refused to cook. Police said the woman later died from injuries sustained during the attack.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the suspect was taken into custody after authorities received a report of the assault.

According to the police, the suspect admitted during interrogation that he attacked his wife in a fit of anger after she allegedly declined to prepare a meal. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation that ended in tragedy.

“The suspect confessed to committing the act out of anger after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food. An argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation that ultimately resulted in her death,” Nansel said.

Police further disclosed that the couple had been married for six years and were parents to two children—a boy and a girl—who have now been left without their mother.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a comprehensive and speedy investigation.

The police commissioner assured residents that the command would ensure justice is served, adding that the suspect will be prosecuted once investigations are completed. The incident has renewed concerns about domestic violence and the need for stronger efforts to prevent abuse within families.
