The Imo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a road accident that claimed the lives of two police officers and left five others injured while they were on official duty in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

The tragic incident occurred on June 29, 2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road, where a vehicle conveying seven police operatives was involved in a crash, according to the Command.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said the injured officers were immediately taken for medical treatment. However, two of the personnel later died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, directed a full investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

The police chief also ordered that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the five injured officers, who are currently receiving treatment.

Expressing condolences on behalf of the Imo State Police Command, Bosso described the deceased officers as dedicated personnel whose service and sacrifice to the Nigeria Police Force would not be forgotten. Their identities have not yet been made public.

“The Commissioner of Police extends his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased officers. Their deaths are a painful loss to the Command and the Nigeria Police Force, and their dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered,” the statement said.

Bosso also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured officers and assured their families of the Command’s continued support, stressing that the welfare of police personnel remains a top priority.

The Imo State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident and urged members of the public to remember the deceased officers, their families and the injured personnel in their prayers.
