The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, has praised the Imo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (IMSACA) for its continued efforts to combat HIV/AIDS through public awareness campaigns and support for people living with the virus.

Ekomaru gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by the leadership of IMSACA at the Government House in Owerri, where she reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and disease prevention.

Highlighting the health sector reforms under Governor Hope Uzodimma, the deputy governor pointed to key initiatives including the Imo Health Insurance Scheme, the construction of ultra-modern general hospitals, the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres across the state, and improved welfare packages for doctors and other healthcare workers.

She also commended Governor Uzodimma’s inclusive leadership style, noting that his administration has deliberately appointed qualified women into strategic positions, where they have continued to make meaningful contributions to governance and public service.

Ekomaru urged IMSACA to intensify its public enlightenment campaigns, stressing that increased awareness remains essential in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and addressing other public health concerns.

Speaking during the visit, the Director General of IMSACA, Dr. Chidimma Okoro, expressed appreciation to the deputy governor for receiving the delegation and acknowledged the state government’s sustained investment in the health sector.

Dr. Okoro announced that the agency has completed the development of an HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan designed to strengthen the state’s response to the disease. She formally invited the deputy governor to the official launch of the document, scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The visit concluded with the decoration of the deputy governor with the official face cap for the upcoming launch and the presentation of an invitation letter alongside other documents related to the event.
