Pressure is mounting on authorities in Ogun State to solve the murder of retired broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku, as friends of the late media professional have called for swift justice and the arrest of those responsible for her death.
Oyesiku, a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), was found dead in her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta alongside her security guard in what police have described as a homicide investigation.
The tragic discovery was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said Oyesiku’s body was found inside her apartment, while the corpse of her security guard was discovered at the security post within the premises.
Investigators also reported that the retired broadcaster’s Lexus RX300 was initially missing from the residence, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the attack. However, police later recovered the vehicle during a night operation as investigations continued.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, visited the crime scene on Monday to assess the situation firsthand and receive updates from detectives handling the case.
During the visit, the police chief reiterated the command’s determination to uncover the facts behind the killings and ensure that everyone involved is identified and prosecuted.
Despite the ongoing investigation, friends of the deceased have expressed concern that the case must not fade from public attention. In a statement signed by Oluwaseun Boye, they described Oyesiku as a peaceful and compassionate woman whose life was cut short in a cruel and senseless manner.
They urged the Ogun State Government, security agencies, and justice stakeholders to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, insisting that accountability is necessary to reassure the public that criminal acts will not go unpunished.
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Bringing the perpetrators to justice will reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished,” the statement said.
The group also commended the Ogun State Police Command for the steps taken so far and encouraged investigators to sustain the momentum until every individual connected to the crime is identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
In addition, they appealed to members of the public to provide any useful information that could assist investigators, stressing that even seemingly minor details could prove critical in solving the case.
As investigations continue, friends and loved ones of the late broadcaster say they remain hopeful that the truth will emerge and that those behind the killings will ultimately face justice.
