Oyo Police Rescue One-Month-Old Baby Allegedly Sold for ₦2 Million, Arrest Two Suspects

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan and arrested two suspects, including the child’s mother and the owner of the health facility where she was delivered.

The police said investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other people allegedly connected to the suspected child trafficking case.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, following a report received on October 15 from Mary Amos, a resident of the Ogunwade area of Ido. Amos had raised concerns over the disappearance of her granddaughter.

According to the police, the child’s mother, identified as Cecilia, implicated the owner of the health facility, aged 40, and another suspect. She alleged that the individuals lured her into the arrangement and facilitated the baby’s sale to a person identified as Odunayo.

Investigators reportedly found that the transaction involved ₦2 million. Of that amount, Cecilia allegedly received ₦1 million, while the two other individuals were said to have received ₦500,000 each.

The police subsequently rescued the baby girl and arrested a suspect identified as Adeleke. Authorities said efforts were continuing to apprehend Folawewo and bring everyone allegedly involved in the incident to justice.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable people. It also urged members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of child trafficking and related offences to the authorities.

The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspects’ guilt has not been established in court.
