Fear gripped residents of Yauri in Kebbi State after suspected bandits reportedly stormed the residence of a local APC chairman and abducted two members of his family.
The victims, identified as the wife and son of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Yauri Local Government Area, Alhaji Yusuf Alhassan, were reportedly taken away during an overnight attack.
Residents said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Alhassan’s residence in the Low-Cost area of Yauri, a community that has faced growing security concerns in recent years.
According to local sources, the armed attackers invaded the property and forcefully abducted the chairman’s wife and son before fleeing the area.
The kidnappers reportedly moved the victims to an unknown location, with fears that they may have been taken into nearby forest areas often used as hideouts by criminal groups.
The attack has heightened anxiety among residents, who have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to tackle the persistent threat of banditry and kidnapping across parts of the state.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, said security operatives had been mobilised to the area and were working to rescue the victims.
He stated that efforts were ongoing to track down the abductors and secure the safe return of those kidnapped.
As of the time of filing this report, Alhaji Yusuf Alhassan had not publicly commented on the incident. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful, as his phone lines were reportedly switched off.
The latest abduction adds to a growing list of kidnapping cases recorded across northern Nigeria, where security agencies continue to battle armed groups responsible for attacks on communities, highways, and private residences.
Authorities have assured residents that investigations are underway and that every effort is being made to locate the victims and apprehend those behind the attack.
