A woman identified as Amarachi Chinyere has detailed the events that allegedly led to a violent assault by a 37-year-old man, Agwu Ukpo, in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

The incident, which gained widespread attention after a video surfaced online, has led to the arrest of the suspect by the Abia State Police Command.

Speaking in a video shared by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, Amarachi claimed the conflict began after she rejected repeated sexual advances from Ukpo, who allegedly offered her money in exchange for a sexual relationship.

According to her, the suspect approached her and promised to give her ₦50,000 if she agreed to sleep with him. She said she declined the offer because she is married.

“One day, that boy, Ukpo, asked me if he wanted to have sex with me, and I said no. Then he said he was going to give me ₦50,000. I told him no, that I am already married,” she alleged.

Amarachi claimed that after the rejection, the suspect began harassing her and creating conflicts.

She recounted an incident in which she returned from a brief outing after preparing soup and allegedly discovered that the suspect had poured the soup from her cooking pot into a washing bowl.

According to her, she reported the matter to a neighbour identified as Obinna, who attempted to question the suspect about his actions.

The situation reportedly escalated days later when another disagreement arose over leftover soup.

Amarachi alleged that after moving a small quantity of soup from a pot into a plate and washing the pot, the suspect later accused her of insulting him and threatened to attack her.

She claimed the argument quickly turned physical.

“I asked him, ‘You will beat me? What did I do to you?’ Then he held me there and began to beat me,” she said.

The victim further alleged that several bystanders tried unsuccessfully to stop the assault, including the individual who recorded the incident on video.

According to her, the suspect ignored repeated pleas and continued the attack.

Amarachi said she sustained injuries to her back, chest, and eyes, adding that the beating left her physically weak and required medical treatment.

Demanding justice, she called on law enforcement authorities to prosecute the suspect and ensure he bears the cost of her medical expenses.

“I want justice. I want the police to take him to court. All the money my husband spent on my treatment, he should pay it back,” she stated.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Ukpo following the circulation of the viral video.

Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the suspect, who is from Akanu Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area, is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department.

She added that the suspect is expected to face charges related to assault and attempted murder once investigations are concluded.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
