Former Imo State governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu, has applauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as significant infrastructural development across Abuja.
Nwosu made the remarks during a news conference in Abuja, where he commended the FCT Administration for executing major road and public infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation, connectivity, and urban development in the nation’s capital.
His comments come amid ongoing public debate over Wike’s performance since assuming office as FCT Minister in August 2023, with supporters highlighting infrastructure delivery while critics continue to raise concerns about other aspects of governance.
Speaking on the visible changes across the city, Nwosu said residents and visitors can easily observe the impact of ongoing projects under the current administration.
“I have lived in Abuja for over 25 years and I know what many of these roads looked like before now,” he said.
He pointed to several completed and ongoing projects, including the Apo Road, Maitama Bridge, Jahi Bridge, Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange, Airport Expressway to Kuje Road, Kuje–Gwagwalada Road, the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) carriageways, and road networks within Katampe District.
According to him, these projects demonstrate purposeful leadership and a commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
Since taking office, Wike has prioritised infrastructure development, commissioning and flagging off multiple projects across the city centre and the six area councils as part of efforts to improve mobility, ease traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activity.
Nwosu argued that infrastructure remains one of the most visible indicators of governance, adding that governments should be assessed by their ability to improve public facilities and living conditions.
He also praised the construction of judges’ quarters within the FCT, describing the initiative as a positive step toward improving the welfare and working environment of judicial officers.
“Every journey begins with a step. The important thing is that development is taking place, and I believe similar interventions will extend to other government institutions and agencies,” he stated.
The former governorship candidate further stressed the need for Abuja to compare favourably with leading capital cities around the world, noting that investments in infrastructure, security, and environmental sanitation are crucial to enhancing Nigeria’s image.
According to him, the ongoing projects are helping reposition Abuja as a modern capital city capable of attracting investment and providing a better experience for residents and visitors alike.
While acknowledging that opinions remain divided over Wike’s tenure, Nwosu maintained that the scale and pace of infrastructure development under the minister deserve recognition.
His endorsement adds to the growing national conversation surrounding the FCT Administration, with supporters pointing to visible improvements across Abuja, while critics continue to call for greater attention to social services, land administration issues, and rural development.
