A powerful windstorm has left a trail of destruction across several communities in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, damaging homes, food storage facilities and property valued at millions of naira.

The affected communities include Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro and Ciwan Wanzam, where residents are now counting heavy losses following the severe weather incident.

The storm reportedly struck on Wednesday night, leaving widespread damage in its wake and forcing many families out of their homes after buildings were either partially damaged or completely destroyed.

A member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly representing Suru Constituency, Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, confirmed the extent of the devastation after visiting the affected areas to assess the situation and sympathise with victims.

Maisudan said the destruction was extensive but confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident, describing the disaster as a difficult test for the affected communities.

“My heart goes out to you in this difficult moment, and I urge you to accept it as a trial from Almighty Allah,” the lawmaker said during his visit.

He assured residents that the matter would be presented before the State House of Assembly and Governor Nasir Idris to ensure swift government intervention and support for those affected.

“I will ensure your condition is presented to the appropriate authorities so that immediate support can reach you without delay,” he added.

Officials of the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency also accompanied the lawmaker on the assessment tour and pledged to provide relief materials and coordinate emergency response efforts for displaced families.

As communities begin recovery efforts, residents are calling for urgent assistance to rebuild homes and restore livelihoods, especially as many households have lost food supplies and essential belongings in the disaster.
