Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been named among the 2026 inductees into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia, in recognition of his global influence on music and Black culture.
The organisers announced the Nigerian singer as part of this year’s class ahead of the induction ceremony scheduled for June 1 in Atlanta’s Historic Westside. The honour places Davido among a select group of entertainment and cultural figures celebrated for shaping the global Black music landscape.
This year’s inductees also include American rapper Ludacris, gospel singer Paul Morton, and former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, reflecting a diverse line-up of individuals recognised for their impact on entertainment and public life.
The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame was established by the Black American Music Association in collaboration with the Georgia Entertainment Caucus. It honours Black creatives and cultural leaders whose work has significantly influenced music and entertainment worldwide.
Davido’s inclusion adds to the growing list of African artists recognised by the platform, following the posthumous honour of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti in previous editions.
Born in Atlanta but raised in Nigeria, Davido has built a career that bridges both cultures. He began his professional music journey in 2011 and gained widespread attention with his breakout hit “Dami Duro” from his debut album Omo Baba Olowo released in 2012.
Over the past 15 years, the singer has become one of Africa’s most successful music exports, releasing five studio albums including A Good Time, A Better Time, Timeless, and 5ive. His work has consistently dominated charts across Africa and beyond.
The recognition comes as Davido marks a major milestone in his career. On Thursday, he reflected on his journey in a post on X, writing: “God is the best of all planners! 15 years in da game.”
His international profile continues to rise, with multiple award nominations, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024, where Timeless was nominated for Best Global Music Album.
The induction further cements Davido’s position as one of the leading figures in Afrobeats’ global expansion, as the genre continues to gain mainstream recognition worldwide.
