The ancient town of Okigwe in Imo State came alive on Saturday as political activity peaked with a high-profile reception hosted by Senator Patrick Chinwuba Ndubueze, representing Imo North Senatorial District, for newly elected All Progressives Congress (APC) executives and party leaders across the zone.
The event, held at the Police Field in Okigwe, drew stakeholders from all 64 electoral wards in Imo North, alongside prominent political figures including the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, who attended with principal officers and lawmakers.
Former legislators, party chieftains, and grassroots leaders from the six local government areas in the senatorial district also turned out in large numbers, using the occasion to commend Senator Ndubueze for what they described as steady development efforts in the zone over the past three years.
The gathering opened with prayers led by Christian clerics, who dedicated the region and its leadership to divine protection, while also expressing gratitude for what they described as a gradual return of peace following years of insecurity challenges in parts of Okigwe.
The atmosphere became highly charged as Senator Ndubueze arrived to loud cheers from supporters and party faithful, marking what many described as both a celebration and a political reaffirmation of his leadership.
The event was originally designed as an appreciation meeting for APC leaders and supporters across the senatorial district, but it quickly evolved into a showcase of the senator’s legislative and constituency projects since assuming office in the 10th Senate.
Ndubueze used the platform to highlight a range of interventions, including sponsorship of bills, motions, empowerment programmes, and employment opportunities for constituents across Imo North.
He also outlined major projects he said had been attracted to the zone, including the proposed Federal University in Okigwe, the Greater Okigwe Power Project, the Ezinnachi mega grain silo, and ongoing arterial road developments spanning the six local government areas of the district.
The senator expressed appreciation to Governor Hope Uzodimma for his support, noting that collaboration with the state government had been crucial in advancing development projects across the senatorial zone.
The event ended with renewed political alignment within the APC in Imo North, with party leaders pledging continued support for the senator as preparations gradually build toward future political contests in the state.
