The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has officially launched its party leadership screening as it gears up for statewide congresses. Prof. James Okoroma, the state chairman, confirmed that all arrangements are in place for a transparent and credible process aimed at reinforcing party structures ahead of upcoming elections.
Okoroma described the screening as a pivotal step for fostering unity, discipline, and performance-driven leadership within the party. “With the screening now underway, attention has shifted to the successful conduct of the congress, which is expected to produce a new set of party leaders across various levels in Imo State,” he said.
The chairman highlighted that the exercise will test the party’s organisational capacity while demonstrating its commitment to democratic principles. Preparations were completed to ensure a smooth, orderly process across all wards and local chapters.
Hon. Mayor Eze, leading the national screening committee at the ADC secretariat in Owerri, outlined strict guidelines to ensure fairness and accountability. He stressed that the exercise would leave no room for bias or irregularities, and only aspirants who meet the party’s criteria and show dedication to its ideals will be cleared to participate.
The committee’s approach reflects the national leadership’s determination to uphold internal democracy and due process. Eze called on all aspirants and stakeholders to cooperate fully and maintain decorum throughout the exercise.
This congress follows heightened political activity across Nigeria as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. ADC officials view the process as essential for strengthening grassroots engagement and positioning the party as a credible alternative in future polls.
The screening is expected to conclude in the coming days, setting the stage for the nationwide congresses that will elect new party leaders across Nigeria.
