A late afternoon fire outbreak has caused significant damage at the Nigerian Breweries facility in Aba, Abia State, affecting nearby properties around the Nigerian Railways station axis.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, sparked panic among residents and business owners in the area as flames spread rapidly to adjoining structures before emergency responders arrived.

Eyewitnesses said locals initially attempted to contain the fire, but the intensity of the blaze overwhelmed their efforts, leading to confusion and temporary disruption within the vicinity.

The swift intervention of the Abia State Fire Service and other emergency agencies eventually brought the situation under control, preventing further destruction and stopping the fire from spreading to additional facilities.

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the Abia State Government has confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish what triggered the incident.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the government assured residents that the situation has been fully contained and urged the public to disregard misleading videos being circulated online.

“This is to inform the general public that the fire outbreak that occurred at the Nigerian Breweries facility this afternoon, which also spread to other facilities within the vicinity and raged for some hours, has finally been successfully contained by the Abia State Emergency Services and other supporting agencies,” the statement read.

Authorities say a full assessment of the damage will be carried out once the site is fully secured.
