Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Wednesday morning as proceedings continued for his bail application.
El-Rufai was driven into the court premises around 9:00 am, stepping out at 9:05 am under heightened security. Armed personnel were stationed strategically inside and outside the court to maintain order, while journalists were barred from entering the courtroom during the session.
The resumed hearing follows Tuesday’s session, which was stalled after a series of legal maneuvers by the defence. Initially, the defence filed a motion requesting the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, to recuse himself over alleged bias and a pending petition. This move drew opposition from the prosecution.
In a sudden turn, the defence subsequently withdrew the motion for recusal, triggering a flurry of legal exchanges that delayed the hearing. The prosecution also submitted a counter-affidavit opposing the bail request, leaving the defence limited time to respond.
Justice Aikawa adjourned the case for Wednesday to allow continuation of the bail hearing amid the unfolding legal drama.
