Donald Trump has hinted that the United States could shift its military focus to Cuba once ongoing operations involving Iran are concluded.
Speaking at the White House on Thursday during a visit by players and officials of Inter Miami CF, the 2025 Major League Soccer champions, the US president suggested that Washington may eventually turn its attention to the Caribbean nation. The event brought together a largely Miami-based audience, including several attendees of Cuban heritage.
Trump’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel and Iran, where military hostilities have intensified in recent days.
Addressing the gathering, the president said the US government intends to first conclude its current engagement before considering other geopolitical issues. He added that developments in Cuba remain a subject of interest to his administration.
“What’s happening with Cuba is amazing. We think that we want to fix, finish this one first, but that will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba, hopefully not to stay,” Trump said.
The comments suggest that Cuba could emerge as a future focus of US foreign policy once the situation surrounding Iran is resolved. Trump also used the occasion to brief attendees on the ongoing conflict, noting that American and Israeli forces continue their military campaign in the region.
The statement has drawn attention internationally as observers monitor the trajectory of US military involvement in the Middle East and its potential implications for other regions.
