FCT, Abuja – The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed May 18 and 19 for the trial of Innocent Chukwuma, who faces charges of using social media to call on the military to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.

The date was set on Monday after Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the case to allow the prosecution more time to study the case file. David Kaswe, the lawyer representing the prosecution, told the court he had only recently been briefed on the matter following the transfer of the file by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Chukwuma, who was recently arraigned, is accused of posting on his “X” handle @TheAgroman, urging a military coup and calling for the suspension of the Nigerian government. The charge, filed under FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025, states that he allegedly wrote that a coup was necessary and called on the military to “dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian government and join the AES.”

Operatives of the DSS reportedly tracked Chukwuma to Oyigbo in Port Harcourt, where he was arrested. The court adjourned the matter to May 18 and 19 to allow the prosecution adequate time to review the evidence before the trial begins.
