A suspected bomb explosion has shaken Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving several people feared dead and raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the region.
Residents reported that the blast, believed to be caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), occurred on Monday, though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Locals suspect that the explosion may be linked to suspected Boko Haram elements, following a series of violent incidents in the area in recent weeks.
The latest incident comes barely a month after a deadly assault on Woro and nearby Nuku communities, where at least 75 people were reportedly killed and several homes were set ablaze by suspected terrorists.
In response to the earlier violence, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of a military battalion to the affected area in an effort to restore calm and strengthen security.
However, Monday’s explosion suggests continued security challenges in the region, despite the increased military presence.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident, and attempts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire Adeyemi, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Residents remain on edge as they await confirmation of casualties and further details on the cause of the explosion.
