Super Eagles legend Ogenyi Onazi has offered transfer advice to Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, suggesting that a move to England would suit him better than a return to Italy if he leaves current club Galatasaray.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray permanently on July 31, 2025, after a prolific loan spell from Napoli in the 2024/25 season, scored 37 goals, attracting renewed interest from top European clubs. His path to Galatasaray was shaped by blocked moves to Paris Saint-Germain and failed negotiations with Chelsea, though his stellar performances in Turkey and European competitions have reignited the transfer market spotlight on him.
Onazi Weighs in on Transfer Options
In an interview with Footy-Africa, Onazi, a former Lazio midfielder, highlighted three Italian clubs he thinks would suit Osimhen—Juventus, Inter Milan, and AS Roma—but emphasised that England offers the striker broader opportunities.
“Juventus, Inter Milan, and AS Roma are clubs that value players and provide stability,” Onazi said. “But for me, I would love to see Victor in an English club because he can explore very well. It’s one of the best leagues in the world, and he will have more broad chances.”
Reports from Turkey, citing Haberler, suggested that Osimhen may be unhappy at Galatasaray, pointing to muted celebrations in the club’s European matches as evidence. The striker, however, has denied being discontent and explained that his celebrations are a personal choice.
Transfer Restrictions and Interest from Top Clubs
Osimhen cannot yet join Juventus due to a €50 million buyout clause Galatasaray would have to pay to Napoli. Nonetheless, other leagues remain viable, with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich reportedly targeting the striker for their number nine roles after being impressed by his Champions League performances.
Galatasaray President Addresses Salary Rumours
Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek recently refuted reports claiming the club owes players, including Osimhen, unpaid salaries. Ozbek described the rumours as “an insult to the professionalism of the players,” assuring fans that salaries are paid on schedule.
