A trailer carrying hundreds of bags of rice was completely engulfed in flames while in motion along the Ogbomoso–Oyo Road at Sekona, Oyo State, on Saturday.

The incident, confirmed by Maroof Akinwande, chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, fortunately resulted in no casualties.

“Upon arrival, we met a trailer loaded with rice that had swerved off the road and caught fire,” Akinwande said.

Additional Fire Outbreak in Oyo Town

Separately, a fire also ravaged parts of Bright Star Group of School in Awumonro, Oyo town. Preliminary reports indicate that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, affecting multiple sections of the private institution.

Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of either fire incident, while emergency response teams continue to investigate and secure affected areas.

The twin incidents highlight ongoing concerns about fire safety for both commercial transport and educational facilities in the region.
