Popular Nigerian content creator Asherkine has responded to criticism surrounding his latest viral video featuring a young woman identified as Chiamaka Clare.
The video, which surfaced on Monday, March 9, 2026, showed the creator meeting Clare while she was working at a restaurant in Ogun State. In the clip, Asherkine treated the young woman to a lavish experience that included a shopping spree, a surprise trip to Cape Town, a new head tattoo, and several luxury outings.
Initially, the video attracted widespread praise on social media, with many users applauding the content creator for putting a smile on the young woman’s face.
However, the narrative soon shifted after some social media users on X dug up Clare’s Instagram profile and claimed she was already accustomed to luxury travel and fashion. Others alleged that Asherkine and the young woman had known each other before the video was recorded, accusing him of staging the content.
Responding to the allegations on Tuesday, March 10, Asherkine defended the authenticity of the video, explaining that the content documented a week-long interaction with the 21-year-old.
“I may understand that a bunch of people cannot fathom a young adult living and working in Ogun State, trying to make a way for themselves because she ‘looks too good’ for such a job,” he wrote.
The content creator also shared details of his own journey, recalling how he started filming entertainers at events as a teenager while studying around the University of Lagos area. According to him, he later worked with entertainers such as Asake and Olamide while pursuing opportunities in the entertainment industry.
“I was 17 filming entertainers at events just to chase something… I was exactly 20 after grad juggling Ikotun and Chevron to document everything I could until I started getting paid to film Olamide and Asake. From there it was up,” he explained.
He also dismissed claims that the video appeared staged, noting that unlike many of his usual day-long videos, the particular content was filmed over the course of a week after their first meeting.
“I understand that most of my videos span through the progression of a day, but this video spanned over a week after our first meet. I’m unsure how it looks like a 48-hour livestream,” he added.
Asherkine further stated that he would not allow criticism to undermine the effort behind the content or the positive impact he believes it had on the young woman featured in the video.
Following his explanation, reactions on social media remained mixed. While some users praised him for clarifying the situation and defended his philanthropic style of content creation, others continued to question the authenticity of the video.
