The Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, Gwong Song, has confirmed that over 30 indigenes of the council were killed by terrorists who invaded Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State on February 3, 2026.
Song, who spoke to journalists on Tuesday, said the attack also led to the displacement of over 500 residents, mostly natives of Ganawuri who had travelled to Kwara for farming and commercial activities.
“The impact of the violence has left relatives of the victims devastated,” he lamented, describing the situation as painful and sad.
According to Song, the number of displaced persons has risen to 707, with some managing to return home while others remain stranded in Kwara. The council chairman provided N3 million to transport 200 returnees back home, where they are staying with relatives amid the destruction.
A special day of remembrance is scheduled for Thursday to honor those who lost their lives. “We have about 30 of them that lost their lives, and as a community, it is very painful for us,” Song said.
He also noted that four community members are receiving medical treatment in Kwara, while about 10 others remain in captivity by the attackers.
