Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, has called on Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to resolve his differences with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.

Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on The Morning Show on Arise Television, Aondoakaa said reconciliation would be in line with directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

His remarks follow escalating tensions between Governor Alia and Akume, particularly after the recent ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held across Benue State.

The rift, which reportedly began shortly after Governor Alia’s inauguration in 2023, has divided party members in the state into rival factions.

Aondoakaa noted that the President had initiated a conciliatory process within the party to address the disagreement.

“The President has directed a conciliatory process by the party regarding the differences between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume,” he said.

He added that it would not amount to disrespect for the governor to approach the SGF in compliance with the President’s directive.

“I don’t see anything wrong, nor do I see it as disrespect to the office of the Governor, if he approaches Akume in obedience to the President’s directive.”

The development underscores ongoing political realignments within the APC in Benue State ahead of future party activities.
