Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 20 individuals in connection with alleged electoral offences during the February 21, 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb vote buying, vote selling, and other electoral malpractices.
In a statement shared on its official X page, the EFCC revealed that the suspects were apprehended across the FCT with a total of N17,218,700 linked to electoral offences. One of the suspects was caught with N13,500,000 inside a vehicle parked near a polling booth in Kwali Local Government Area.
The arrests were made in multiple locations: two in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali. The commission emphasized that the operation is aimed at ensuring compliance with electoral laws and promoting fair conduct during the local government polls.
Investigations are ongoing, and the EFCC confirmed that all suspects will be prosecuted once inquiries are concluded.
