A wave of fear has gripped Kankara town in Katsina State after armed bandits abducted a young businessman, Suleiman Danjuma, and his wife, highlighting the fragile security situation despite recent local peace agreements.
Family Held Hostage Amid Community Shock
The abduction occurred Wednesday night at the couple’s home in Tudun Daluta, Kankara, and was confirmed in a post shared on X by Bakatsine on Thursday.
“During the attack, Suleiman Danjuma and his wife were kidnapped, a local source reported, leaving their family and the community in fear and shock,” the post read.
Security Challenges Persist During Ramadan
The incident marks the third consecutive day of civilian abductions in Kankara Local Government Area, occurring even during the holy month of Ramadan — a period traditionally reserved for reflection, compassion, and peace.
Security experts warn that such attacks undermine community trust and challenge the effectiveness of local peace initiatives aimed at curbing banditry in northern Nigeria.
Authorities have yet to confirm the status of the victims or provide updates on efforts to secure their release.
