Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has revealed that out of the estimated 5.9 million people expected to face severe humanitarian conditions in Nigeria’s North-East, two million are from Yobe State alone.

The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday at the official launch of the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) at the United Nations House in Abuja. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, Buni reaffirmed the state’s dedication to protecting children and vulnerable populations.

“No child would be left behind or exposed to harm, even amid protracted humanitarian challenges facing the region,” Buni said, stressing the importance of safeguarding the welfare and future of Yobe’s children.

Highlighting the urgent needs of affected communities, the governor called for sustained, coordinated, and locally driven humanitarian efforts. He noted that Yobe State is implementing its Durable Solutions Agenda through the State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacement, focusing on long-term recovery, resilience, and development rather than solely emergency response.

Buni added that the state is ready to strengthen coordination, ensure accountability, and align humanitarian interventions with broader development and peacebuilding initiatives.
