The Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Ahiara Diocese, has announced the death of its Vice President and veteran journalist, Anthony Okoroigwe, triggering an outpouring of tributes from media and faith communities.

Okoroigwe, a respected broadcaster and one of the pioneering members of CAMPAN in the former Owerri Diocese, passed away on Saturday, leaving behind a legacy of service, professionalism and deep commitment to faith-based media practice.

A seasoned journalist, Okoroigwe served for many years in the News and Current Affairs Department of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), where he was known for his dedication to duty, principled reporting and passion for justice and fairness.

Colleagues described him as jovial, steadfast and deeply committed to ethical journalism, qualities that shaped his influence both within the newsroom and the wider Catholic media community.

He played a key role in the establishment of CAMPAN in the Ahiara Diocese and later rose to become its Vice President, a position in which he was widely regarded as a stabilising force and mentor to younger practitioners.

Born into an Anglican family, Okoroigwe later embraced Catholicism and went on to raise his household in what associates described as a deeply rooted Catholic environment. He was an active member of several Catholic Church sodalities and was rarely absent from church-related engagements.

CAMPAN Ahiara Diocese described his passing as a painful loss, noting that his contributions to the association and the Church would be difficult to replace.

“His death is deeply painful, but we take solace in the belief that it is a heavenly gain,” the association said in a statement, praying for the repose of his soul.

Condolences have been extended to his wife, children, the entire Okoroigwe family, Eziama Oparanadim Parish, and members of CAMPAN Ahiara Diocese.

Anthony Okoroigwe is remembered as a media professional whose life bridged journalism and faith, leaving an enduring imprint on Catholic media practice in Imo State and beyond.
