Controversial social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has criticised Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson following the arrest of a TikTok content creator over alleged defamatory claims involving her husband.

The TikToker, identified as Eedie Bliss, was reportedly arrested and detained in Abuja after a petition filed by Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Henry Okojie. Her detention followed a video in which she discussed unverified rumours about the actress’s family.

The controversy dates back to December 2025, when social media speculation claimed that Prince Okojie had allegedly purchased a mansion for another woman said to be pregnant for him outside his marriage. In her video, Eedie Bliss, citing gossip blogger Cutie Juls as her source, went further to allege that Mercy Johnson was involved in actions that led to the woman’s miscarriage — claims that were not substantiated.

Following her arrest, the development triggered widespread backlash online, with critics questioning why legal action was taken against the content creator rather than the original source of the allegations she referenced.

Reacting to the incident, VeryDarkMan condemned Eedie Bliss’s detention and accused Mercy Johnson of selective outrage. He argued that defamation is a civil matter and should be addressed through the courts, not through police detention.

He also pointed to what he described as a contradiction in Mercy Johnson’s past stance, recalling that the actress had previously described the arrest of Sammy Daniels — brother to fellow actress Regina Daniels — as unlawful when he was detained over alleged defamation linked to Senator Ned Nwoko.

According to VeryDarkMan, the detained TikToker is scheduled to get married on Saturday, adding urgency to calls for her release.

“If you feel defamed, take the matter to court,” he said. “Stop using the police to intimidate people. This case is even different because she clearly stated her source.”

He warned that his legal team would intervene if the content creator was not released, as the debate over the use of law enforcement in defamation cases continues to fuel public discussion online.

Neither Mercy Johnson nor her husband has publicly responded to the criticism at the time of reporting.
