A senior figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Emeka Bekee, says Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to seek re-election in 2027 — and could benefit from what he suggested may become a wave of automatic tickets for governors who recently joined the party.
Bekee spoke on Arise Television’s Morning Show, against the backdrop of the lingering political rivalry between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to the APC stalwart, internal negotiations at the national level could shape how the party selects its candidates ahead of the next general election.
“Fubara is going to buy the nomination form to run under APC in 2027,” Bekee said, adding that while the party uses different methods — including consensus and voice vote — governors who defected to the APC may ultimately secure second-term tickets.
“If the agreement between the centre and the governors is that they will have a second term, Fubara will have his second term. Nobody can deny him that.”
Bekee stressed that what matters most, in his view, is political stability and progress for Rivers State.
He noted that if the party opts for a competitive primary, the governor would still have to prove his strength at the polls: “If he emerges and he wins, he becomes the candidate of the party for 2027.”
The remarks come as political alignments continue to shift nationwide, with debates intensifying over power blocs, defections and the future of party structures ahead of the next election cycle.
