Nigeria’s music industry stamped its authority on the continental stage on Sunday night as its biggest stars claimed the spotlight at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos.

Rema emerged as the evening’s standout act, taking home three of the ceremony’s most coveted honours. The global Afrobeats star was named Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul, capping a remarkable year of commercial success and international recognition.

Burna Boy also enjoyed a triumphant night, winning Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, a project that further cemented his status as one of Africa’s most influential music exports. The Grammy winner additionally shared the Best African Collaboration award with rising star Shallipopi.

Shallipopi continued his strong showing by clinching Song of the Year for Laho, a track that dominated airwaves and social media across the continent.

Female excellence was also recognised, with Yemi Alade winning Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for You Are, featured in the animated series Iyanu.

In the hip-hop category, Phyno was crowned Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, reinforcing his enduring impact on the genre.

Beyond Nigeria, Tanzania’s Juma Jux claimed Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, highlighting the pan-African reach of the awards.

Emerging talent was not left out. Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artiste of the Year, while Chella secured the African Fans’ Favourite award, reflecting strong grassroots support.

The 9th AFRIMA ceremony celebrated artistic excellence across Africa, blending established stars with rising voices and underscoring the continent’s growing influence on the global music scene.
