Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries, has formally approached the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption by Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Dangote Group confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, explaining that the petition follows the strategic withdrawal of a similar complaint from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), a move aimed at accelerating prosecution.

The EFCC petition, signed by Lead Counsel Dr O.J. Onoja, requests a thorough investigation into claims of abuse of office and corrupt enrichment. Among the allegations, Dangote has raised concerns over $5 million reportedly spent by Ahmed on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland.

Earlier, Dangote had petitioned the ICPC to investigate the claims, though the ICPC vowed to continue its probe even after the withdrawal of the petition. The switch to EFCC signals a more focused anti-graft approach, according to the statement.

The Dangote Group urged that if evidence proves culpability, Ahmed should face prosecution under Nigeria’s anti-corruption laws.

This latest move underscores ongoing tensions and scrutiny over governance and financial accountability within Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory sector.
