A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an attempt by African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, to prevent the Department of State Services (DSS) from tendering video evidence allegedly showing him referring to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal”.

At Thursday’s proceedings, the court admitted a flash drive containing video clips from August 2025, alongside screenshots of social media posts attributed to Sowore and comments they generated online. The ruling was delivered by Justice Mohammed Umar, who overruled the defence’s objection at this stage of the trial.

The video recordings were played in open court as the DSS, represented by senior advocate Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, presented its first prosecution witness, Cyril Nosike, an operative of the agency. Nosike testified while being led in evidence by the prosecution.

In addition to the video clips, the prosecution tendered messages allegedly posted by Sowore on his X account and Meta platforms, formerly known as Facebook, in which the President was described as a “criminal”. The DSS also presented related public reactions and a certificate of compliance to support the electronic evidence.

Justice Umar admitted all the materials as exhibits after Sowore’s counsel, Marshal Abubakar, opted to reserve objections until the final written addresses stage of the case.

Following the completion of the prosecution’s evidence-in-chief, the defence requested an adjournment to review the witness statement and other documents earlier served by the prosecution.

The court granted the request and adjourned the case to January 27 for cross-examination of the first prosecution witness and continuation of the trial.

Sowore is the sole defendant in the amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, which was filed on December 5.
