Social media commentator VeryDarkMan has confirmed that he was the person who alerted police, resulting in the arrest of activist Harrison Gwamnishu, currently held in Benin, Edo State.

Speaking in a video posted on Facebook on Friday, VeryDarkMan said he contacted law enforcement on Thursday night after receiving reports about an incident involving Gwamnishu in Auchi. He described the information he received as “disappointing” and claimed he initially asked others not to share it publicly.

The situation gained wider attention when a video emerged online, prompting VeryDarkMan to take action. He accused Gwamnishu of attempting to manipulate public perception through his own video explanation, which he labelled as “gaslighting” and a bid for sympathy.

VeryDarkMan stated that the police had instructed those present not to record the incident, yet a video showing Gwamnishu returning money linked to the case surfaced. He added that Gwamnishu’s truck remains at the Edo State police station.

The influencer denied acting out of personal jealousy, insisting that his sole motivation was to uphold “the truth” and ensure accountability. He urged Gwamnishu to speak openly once released to clarify the events in Auchi.

“So, Harrison Gwamnishu is in police custody in Benin, Edo state. He was arrested last night. In all honesty, I initiated the call that led to his arrest. I did. And first of all, I’m really disappointed in everything, but I would wait for him to come out, and this time, I would want him to use his mouth to say the truth about what happened in Auchi,” VeryDarkMan said.

He concluded by warning that if Gwamnishu does not publicly clarify the matter, he may reveal additional details himself, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in the unfolding controversy.
