Controversial Anambra-based cleric Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere, widely known as Prophet Odumeje, has ignited debate after challenging fellow pastors to a public miracle contest. The provocative remarks were made during a sermon attended by his congregation.
Odumeje, notorious for his dramatic preaching style and bold claims, declared himself “the greatest pastor in the world,” insisting that no other spiritual leader can match his abilities or supernatural power.
During the service, he claimed to possess extraordinary powers, some of which he has yet to use, and invited any pastor who doubts his superiority to participate in a spiritual showdown.
“All the pastors in the world know that I am the greatest. Nobody reaches me,” Odumeje proclaimed. “If you say I am not greater than you, come out for a challenge. Come out, let us do miracles. I have extra power for competition. I have extra power for ‘incase of incasity’.”
His challenge has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many questioning both the legitimacy of his claims and the intent behind publicly challenging his peers. Critics describe the move as a spectacle, while supporters argue it reflects his confidence in his spiritual calling.
Observers note that Odumeje’s penchant for public stunts has often placed him at the centre of controversy, making him a polarizing figure in Nigeria’s religious landscape. This latest proclamation is likely to fuel ongoing debates about faith, authenticity, and showmanship in contemporary Nigerian Christianity.
The cleric’s statements highlight the growing trend among some pastors to leverage media attention and performative declarations to consolidate influence, prompting discussion on the line between spiritual leadership and entertainment in religious practice.
