Akwa United head coach Paul Offor says the club remains firmly in the hunt for promotion despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Godswill Akpabio FC in their latest Nigeria National League (NNL) outing.
The Promise Keepers have taken seven points from their opening four matches, recording two wins, one draw and a defeat as they continue to find their rhythm in Group B. Their current position—fourth on the table—keeps them within touching distance of the playoff spots.
With only two teams guaranteed qualification for the crucial promotion playoffs, pressure continues to mount on clubs across the group. But Offor insists Akwa United are “still on course” and have the quality required to secure a top-two finish.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Offor expressed confidence in his players’ ability to recover quickly from dropped points, especially in a derby fixture that could have gone either way.
He stressed that the remaining fourteen league games offer ample opportunity for the team to climb the standings and reassert themselves as strong promotion contenders.
“Our target remains promotion,” he said. “I’m confident we will bounce back strongly in the remaining fourteen games.”
Offor’s optimism comes as the club intensifies preparations for their next NNL challenge, hoping to build momentum that will keep their promotion dream alive deep into the season.
