The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to resume full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy starting 2nd January 2026, citing growing security concerns across the country.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the directive in a press statement, clarifying that the decision is pending the final determination of a related court matter.
“The enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit will resume to safeguard citizens and prevent exploitation by criminals who use tinted windows to conceal their identities,” Hundeyin said, stressing that no court order has restrained the police from enforcing the law.
The statement highlighted that the temporary suspension of enforcement was intended to give motorists sufficient time to regularise their documents and complete the registration process without undue pressure.
Authorities noted that the gap created by the suspension had been exploited by some individuals and organised criminal groups to facilitate crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offences.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be carried out professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in strict accordance with existing laws.
Motorists are urged to obtain the Tinted Glass Permit through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with legal requirements ahead of the enforcement resumption date.
