Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has broken his silence on the ongoing rumours surrounding a feud with fellow artist Flavour. The duo’s tension first surfaced in 2024 following a social media dispute when Flavour criticised someone for allegedly copying his musical style.

Speaking in an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee revealed that the disagreement was never personal. He explained that years ago, talent manager Soso Soberekon brought Flavour to him, hoping he would sign the now-popular artist to his record label.

Kcee said he turned down Flavour’s record deal at the time because he did not see the potential in him. “I was already established in the industry, driving exotic cars and enjoying success before Flavour came to Lagos. It wasn’t personal; I simply didn’t see the talent to sign him back then,” Kcee said.

He emphasised that their rift is more about perceived superiority and misunderstandings rather than the earlier rejection. Kcee pointed out that some colleagues underrate him because he does not flaunt his achievements or brag about his abilities.

“Till now, I don’t understand the reason for his beef with me, especially over the copying allegation. When people doubt you and you surpass expectations, it can create tension. But time always proves the doubters wrong,” he added.

Kcee also shared that many who initially doubted him have since acknowledged his talent and apologised. He stressed that his work continues to speak for itself, affirming his humility as a core trait in his career.

The singer’s candid remarks shed light on the dynamics of rivalry in Nigeria’s music industry, highlighting the challenges of navigating talent recognition, personal ambition, and professional respect among contemporaries.
