A man identified as Godonu Lowe has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to flee the community with her body hidden in a sack strapped to his motorcycle.

Police operatives intercepted the suspect on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ilaro area. According to investigators, Lowe appeared visibly disturbed when questioned, prompting officers to inspect the sack tied to his bike.

The discovery sent shockwaves through the local community. Inside the sack was the body of an adult woman later confirmed to be the suspect’s wife. Police say the corpse bore clear signs of violence, including deep bleeding around the neck.

A blood-stained cutlass was also recovered from the crime scene, reinforcing suspicions of foul play. Officers immediately took Lowe into custody for further interrogation, while the area was cordoned off to prevent unrest among residents.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, who released a statement on Thursday, said the arrest followed credible intelligence shared with the Ilaro Divisional Police Officer. She confirmed that the remains of the victim have been deposited at the State Morgue for autopsy.

Odutola noted that the swiftness of the interception prevented the suspect from escaping the community. She added that the case has now been transferred to homicide detectives for a full investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the anonymous informant and urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement with timely information. He emphasised that early reporting of suspicious behaviour can prevent violent crimes and save lives.
