Football icon Lionel Messi has revealed that his love for sport goes far beyond the football pitch, listing basketball, tennis, and padel among his favourite games to watch.

The Inter Miami captain shared his sporting passions while speaking at the American Business Forum in Miami, where he discussed life in the United States and his growing interest in other sports since joining Major League Soccer (MLS).

“I love all sports; I love watching them,” Messi said. “Since coming to Miami, I have learned more about American football in particular because I was already following basketball, tennis, and padel.”

The Argentine World Cup winner explained that while he previously watched only the Super Bowl, he now follows the NFL’s regular season more closely — thanks to his children, who play American football at school. “Through them, I started learning more about the game, so now I follow almost everything,” he added.

Messi’s move to the United States has not only expanded his sporting interests but also deepened his connection with American culture. He said that being in Miami has given him more opportunities to enjoy diverse sports communities and events.

The 37-year-old joined Inter Miami on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2023, marking the latest chapter in his illustrious career that includes record-breaking stints at Barcelona and Argentina’s national team.

As one of the world’s most admired athletes, Messi’s openness about his love for multiple sports underscores his lifelong passion for competition and teamwork — qualities that continue to define his legacy on and off the field.
